THE GARDEN VILLA PHUKET - SUMMARY (Written by David Beasley, a visitor from England)The Garden Villa is a tastefully furnished, well maintained villa comprising double bedroom, shower room and outdoor kitchen, located within the grounds of the house of the hosts (Barry, a Canadian, and his Thai wife Am). A particular feature is the outdoor living space, tables, chairs, sun bed and Sala Thai, surrounded by an exquisite garden full of tropical plants and flowers which in turn attract numerous species of butterflies and birds. This is Barry's pride and joy.The property is located within a fairly large gated residential community. There is a clubhouse which can be visited for a small daily fee, and has excellent facilities - a large (uncrowded) swimming pool. jacuzzi, massage, gym, badminton, table tennis, snooker, yoga, restaurant etc. The location is a little inland from Chalong Bay, away from the more tourist infested parts of the Island. A car is pretty much essential, but Barry and Am rented me their Toyota truck at half the amount it would have cost me if I had used a local car rental company.Barry is a very interesting character, known for his trademark tropical hat, well travelled and retired from previously working as a cartoonist in California and other parts of the World. He has an absolute passion for healthy eating and in all my travels I have never been provided with such a range of delicious organic breakfasts, carefully put together for both flavor and nutritional value. The hosts of Garden Villa Phuket are very enthusiastic to ensure their visitors enjoy their stay, and as a result, the personal service provided is exceptional. For example, on the day my wife and I arrived we were surprised to find ourselves invited out for dinner. Barry is also very keen to show off his favorite parts of the island, which, as a dedicated environmentalist, consist mainly of the natural sights of Phuket, away from the heavily populated tourist areas. Barry took us on a free visit to the Butterfly and insect gardens and also to feed elephants with banana leaves cut from his garden.In terms of value for money, I could not have found a better place to stay. Apart from reasonable rental rates for the Villa and truck, there are additional free services, including maid, laundry, airport pick up and drop off, loan of laptop computer and two mobile phones ,.
