Back in the early 1960s, a group of high school friends from Copiague, Long Island (New York), formed a singing group called The Gems. They played school dances and clubs throughout Long Island, including the (long gone) White Brick Inn in West Hempstead, and St. Michaels school in Brooklyn. Before they owned cars of their own, I used to drive them to some of their gigs. When they were offered a record deal if they would change their name to The Locomotions, and sing an "answer" song for Little Eva's record (The Locomotion), they jumped at their chance for fame. The version heard here was recorded off Murray the "K"'s WINS radio program, when it won the "Pick Hit of The Week" sometime in late 1962 or early 1963. The flip side of the record was their own, "Adios, My Love."
